A traveling therapeutic community

The Hero's Journey is a traveler's journey! It's an adventure. It combines the discovery of a region and two seas (the coast of the Gulf of Thailand and the islands of the Andaman Sea) with the observation of oneself, one's inner life, one's emotions that arise from the avatars of travel, group life and meeting others. Here, it's provincial Thailand, off the beaten tourist track but equipped with quality tourist infrastructure, modern and secure transport systems. This trip exists around an itinerary (see map below): we have one month to travel 350 kilometers between a coastal city in the Gulf of Thailand and the island of Koh Phayam in the Indian Ocean. Some characteristic features of this trip:

  • It's organized along the way. Decisions regarding the stages and types of accommodation chosen are made collectively and flexibly. There's time to linger over a favorite stage, but we remain mobile and mobilized.

  • The leading travel and traveler-related apps offer unprecedented flexibility for booking flights, accommodations, bus tickets, getting directions, and group planning. They also allow you to co-create a trip and bring together travel communities.

  • Travel light, ideally with just a carry-on bag. Before departure, it's already an exercise in letting go to take only what's essential. But above all, travel with a light heart.

  • We prefer simple and affordable accommodations, often by the beach and always close to nature. The options are very diverse. It is often possible to rent a house and prepare meals.

  • You pay your own accommodation costs, and meal expenses are shared. You should budget between €50 and €70 per day on site. Support costs are payable separately.

  • The days are organized around a routine that includes group activities and individual time. Numerous activities and treatments are easily accessible: yoga, massage, manicures. The list is endless.

  • Each week, ecotourism and local life discovery activities will be offered: the natural environments of this coastal area are full of gems, mangroves, coconut groves, hiking trails in national parks, and coastal islands.

First, a preparation time

Before leaving, it's best to get an idea of what you want because how can you get what you haven't bothered to consider? What characterizes your current situation? What are the obstacles? The opportunities? The challenges? Your desires? The group members will be able to get to know each other beforehand, particularly on social media thanks to the webinar format. A few telephone interviews with the coach are also essential.

Come aboard, let's go!

This is the decisive step after which it would be a shame to turn back. Having cast off the ties that held you captive, the time has come to commit to fruitful action; you have already taken action. This step is reached when you have invested in a ticket to the first destination of the trip: the coast of Prachuap Khiri Khan, in the Gulf of Thailand.

Voyager

Of course, when you undertake this kind of journey, you are heading towards discoveries, awarenesses, possible difficulties, and challenges to overcome as well. The meaning and challenge of this journey is self-renewal, the acquisition of new resources, new skills, the updating of your system of values and beliefs, and ultimately, the emergence of a life project that makes sense for you. However, the essential thing during this journey lies in understanding what connects us to others, the encounters.

Thailand and the itinerary

The Gulf of Thailand coastline, and more specifically the Prachuap Khiri Khan province, are the perfect place to begin your trip in the best possible conditions. In this highly touristy country (40 million visitors last year), there are still a few quiet corners, off the beaten track but nevertheless equipped with quality hotel and hospitality infrastructure. The cost of living is low compared to areas with a high tourist influx. It is easier to connect and interact with local life. This region remains "to be discovered" and explored.

Close the Parenthesis

The stay, while very enjoyable in itself, is also and above all worth it for the results you will achieve afterwards. In this respect, it constitutes an investment. In the long term, the goal is to improve your psychological flexibility, that is, your ability to be in touch with your emotions and thoughts of the present moment while maintaining or changing, as needed, your actions in pursuit of your objectives in accordance with your values.
